INA and FAG have developed a generator integrated in the axlebox bearings to meet the increasing demands of rail transportation. Freight vehicles can be also supplied with energy independently when they are standing still since energy is stored during operation.
This means that axlebox bearings with integrated generators from Schaeffler Group Industrial can be used in those applications where railcars require electrical energy when there is none available.
This means that it is possible, for example, for electronic data transmission systems with additional functions such as axlebox bearing diagnosis and hazardous materials monitoring to transfer data in shorter intervals thanks to a continuous supply of electricity.
Two systems are currently available:
With a continuous output of 5 watts, the low-power design of the generator is designed for the power supply of sensors for axlebox bearing diagnosis, electronic data transmission systems with GPS and for monitoring transport where data can be transferred by GSM.
A more powerful version with a continuous output of 100 watts is the high-power generator that can supply energy to electropneumatic brake systems, audible and visual warning systems or wheel-slide protection systems.
Customized solutions (e.g. voltage from 6 V to 24 V) are also available on request.
