FAG transmission bearings in the Montserrat rack railway
The old rack railway that lead to the world-famous monastery in Montserrat was demolished in 1957. After many years of planning, a decision was made to rebuild the line between Monistrol and the monastery in Montserrat.
In September 2000, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) placed an order for five vehicles of type GTW Beh 2/6 with the Swiss company Stadler Bussnang AG. This company is regarded as the world’s number one supplier in the rack railway sector.
The trains are equipped with a “mixed drive”, i.e. they are equipped for adhesion operation and rack railway operation.
FAG supplied all the rolling bearings for the wheelset drives.
