Bucket wheel excavators

The bucket wheel excavators operating at RWE Power in the Niederrhein region (Germany) are the biggest excavators in the world. FAG supply bearings both for the gear and for the bucket wheel shaft.

RWE Power excavator 291

  • Bucket wheel diameter 21.6 m
  • Capacity 240,000 m3/day
  • Total weight 13,500 t.
  • Bucket wheel drive power 3,360 kW

Split spherical roller bearings

Split spherical roller bearings are usually used to support bucket wheel shafts. This permits very cost-saving designs. Speedy bearing replacement cuts down on maintenance cost and drastically reduces downtimes.

Split cylindrical roller bearings

In many bucket wheel excavators the bearings supporting the gears for the bucket wheel drive are mounted directly on the bucket wheel shaft. Because of the attached flanges, only split cylindrical roller bearings can be mounted.
