Sealing rings protect bearing positions against contaminants, spray water and excessive loss of grease.
They are used, for example, with drawn cup needle roller bearings (HK) and machined needle roller bearings (NK), but seldom with deep groove ball bearings, since an internal, highly efficient seal can be used with these.
The G / GR sealing rings mainly used are of a single lip design and are made from synthetic NBR elastomer. With rotary motion, they allow circumferential speeds of up to 10 m/s at the seal lip. For higher speeds (up to 16 m/s) the Schaeffler Group offers FPM sealing rings.
SD sealing rings are also available. These comprise two plastic components (seal body: reinforced polyamide, seal lip: thermoplastic PU elastomer) and have two seal lips, allowing their use in particularly dusty environments. Due to the two-component injection moulding method, the seal is particularly economical to produce.
